Sing With Us!

In 2024, we begin our 30th year. Based in Lancaster, PA, the Heritage Chorale strives to promote and preserve the choral art form through performance excellence. Our mission is to inspire our listeners to a renewed appreciation of the rich and varied choral legacy that has been an integral part of our heritage. We present two programs each year—one in the spring and one at Christmas, usually with two to three performances of each program.

The focus of the Heritage Chorale is to create a clear, blended sound so each part sounds as much as possible like a single voice. Instead of initial auditions, we ask interested members to join us for a few rehearsals, and then meet with our conductor Barry Sawyer. At that time, Barry would go over some parts with the interested singers and together decide if they are a good fit.

We rehearse every Tuesday beginning in September through early May (no summer rehearsals). The first rehearsal for our spring season is at 7:00 PM on Tuesday, January 9th at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, 10 Delp Road, Lancaster, PA.

If you are interested in joining us or learning more about the Heritage Chorale, please send us a message on the form below. Please include the part you typically sing and any previous experience. We look forward to hearing from you!

    Frequently asked questions

When and where do you practice?

Our practices are held on Tuesday nights from 7:00 PM until 9:00 PM at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, 10 Delp Road, Lancaster, PA. Practices begin the Tuesday after Labor Day for the Fall Season and the Tuesday after Epiphany Sunday in January for our Spring Season.

What type of music do you sing?

From madrigals to spirituals, all choral styles are represented. Our quality is based on the art of bel canto, which emphasizes purity of tone, contoured phrasing and vocal blend. The repertoire includes both a capella and accompanied works.

How many concerts do you perform per season?

Typically, we perform 3-4 concerts per season. In addition to our usual concerts, occasionally we have included a special performance like traveling to Williamsburg, Virginia to perform at Bruton Parish or to Washington, DC for a very special performance at the National Cathedral.
